Hamilton Leithauser is the consummate frontman and songwriter, as well as a gifted storyteller and collaborator. He showed off all these skills on Wednesday at Brooklyn Steel as part of The Fall Mixer Tour with Kevin Morby, where he performed songs off his latest album “The Loves of Your Life," regaled the audience with stories about their creation, and shared the stage with Morby, Waxahatchee, and Jess Williamson.

Leithauser's songs, vignettes of daily life and lovingly rendered portraits of friends and strangers, have a habit of sneaking up on you. They‘re delivered with his signature growl, and often to devastating effect. Like a good novel, the set transported those in attendance and had us wishing it wouldn’t end.
